Meet Nico and Rivit!
Author: Wes BallThese are the current state of character designs. I know Rivit looks a little familiar, I’ve been working on a revised design ever since ‘that’ movie came out. Rivit is a rough CG model, but Nicodemis is a physical clay sculpt by Daniel Monahan. Will post a time-lapse video of him sculpting over a period of days soon.
In Search of Humans - Teaser #2
Author: Wes BallA new teaser trailer. Changed things around a bit. The last shot was a lot of fun to do. I’ll post some new character designs soon.
The latest ship design.
Author: Wes BallNew Logo
Author: Wes Ball
Just finished the improved 3D logo that will be in the new trailer I’ll be unveiling in a week or two. Any thoughts? Drop a line in the comments if you have any suggestions. And by the way, this shot I’m working on for the trailer…. the BIGGEST FREAKING SHOT I’VE EVER ATTEMPTED! It’s actually driving me slightly insane. I’m halfway through designing everything and I’m already at 2.4 million polys. I don’t know how I’m going to actually render this thing…. sigh.
Main Character Model is coming along…
Author: Wes Ball
Eric is kicking butt on turning Daniel’s sculpt into a 3D mesh. Just thought I’d post the lowerhalf of his body. He’s really shaping up!
Daniel Monahan scultping away.

Just thought I’d show a little image during the sculpting process of one of the characters.
At some point, we’re going to release a whole making-of on the character creation process… covering all the steps from rough sketches, to sculpting, to final CG render. Will show more later on.
Back at it!
Author: Wes BallAfter a bit of a delay. In Search of Humans is getting back up to speed.
Changing things around a bit on the site, and I’ll be using this blog to post random stuff instead of just video or images.
Some quick news, Daniel Monahan has joined the team. He’s a trained sculptor and writer, and is doing some awesome stuff. Will reveal more soon. You can check out more about Daniel at www.danielmonahan.com You can also check out his high-end toy line www.angelsandgringos.com
Also, we now have a seriously talented modeler who’s helping out on characters. His name is Eric Provan. Check out more about him at www.ericprovan.com
We’re not quite ready to reveal the characters just yet, but you’ll see them very soon.
Hoping to make this a productive year! Cheers!
Artist KHAN MUFTIC climbs aboard
Author: Wes Ball
I’ve got some fantastic news to share. Director/Designer KHAN MUFTIC has come on board to help design the main characters of ISOH. I’m stoked because we’ve collaborated on past projects, so I know he’s super talented. And I know he’s going to deliver some phenomenal stuff… sorry Khan. No pressure man.
It’s also worth mentioning that Khan is located in Switzerland! We’re communicating entirely by means of the wonderful world wide web. Gotta love it.
We’ll be revealing more about the process of designing the main characters with a great featurette we have planned. So stay tuned, you’ll be meeting our heroic visitors soon enough.

Making-Of #2: Photo-based earth
Author: Wes BallThis little making-of is in response to a discussion going on over at Newtek’s Disccusion Forums. Thanks JackN and Weepul!
It’s short, but I go over how the earth in the opening shot was created using photos mapped onto 3D geometry. Enjoy!
MAKING OF: Teaser shot breakdown
Author: Wes BallWhat a momentous occasion! This is the very FIRST making of featurette — the first of hopefully many.
Yes it’s rough, it’s crappy quality, it’s too long — but at least it’s DONE. Or as done as it’s gonna to get. These little howto/makingof/screen-grab things are more challenging to create than I expected. Mad propz to those who make these things look easy. But, I’m trying out some new apps, got a new mic, and will have more good stuff to show soon.
Plus, on the bright side, the quality can only go up from here! If you have any suggestions for future posts — questions, tips, suggestions — drop a line in the comments.
Hope you enjoy this little peak behind creating one of the shots in the teaser for .
